India and SL should be the two engines of development of South Asia says Mody in SL parliament

(Lanka-e-News- 13.March.2015, 11.00PM) ‘The world looks at India as a main partner of the international economy , and it is India’s interest to make Sri Lanka (SL) its assistant . India and SL should be the main engines of development in South Asia’, said Indian Prime minister Mody making a historic statement when addressing the SL parliament today(13) . Speaking further Mody went on to elaborate as follows :
''No matter from what angle you look , India and SL are in many ways alike. Being close neighbors , whether it is religious , lingual , cultural or any other , both countries have similarities. Even we received our independence almost at the same time.
SL’s development in the Indian ocean is a ground for India’s prosperity. As the world is viewing India as a main partner of the international economy , so is India’s interest to make SL as its assistant.
India and SL must be made the two main engines in South Asia’s economic growth. We signed an agreement to harness the nuclear energy for peaceful purposes. Agriculture is a sphere that can be developed. The satellite technology can be used to the maximum by SL. When Sri Lankans are travelling to India we have introduced a on line visa for them .
My native place is a place of importance during the period of Lord Buddha. We have necessity to strongly safeguard our two countries . Ocean security is paramount .In progress and disaster (triumph and trial ) , both countries must have the strength to stand together holding hands
.
We must identify the evil pressures militating against our security and progress . No room must be allowed to mount evil pressures . The security of countries like SL , India and Maldives must be made sure. That is part of the responsibility to ensure the security of the ordinary people.''
SL Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe addressing the parliament spoke thus :
'
'The Democratic company was in existence in India before the Greek civilization. The rule of Kings during the Gautama Buddha’s time can be cited as an example. The ancient civilization of Anuradhapura and Polonnaruwa eras of SL , are also examples of this zone. The arrival of Prince Vijaya in SL during the Chola and Pandawa are similar examples. The relationship between SL and India is something that has lasted for a very long time.
The main activities in the Indian ocean zone are India’s, while SL too has a role to play.''
Opposition leader Nimal Siripala De Silva in his address said :
''These pictures depict the extraordinary warm welcome accorded to the Indian P.M. Narendra Mody , at the Presidential palace this morning . It is after 25 years an Indian P.M. has visited this country.''
