Chinese Influence in Sri Lanka and CHOGM

MR_China_Tour_2013May_LeN_04.11.2013

(Lanka-e-News-04.Nov.2013, 5.30PM) Since beginning of the Rajapaksa regime, China expanded its role in Sri Lanka as a major donor, arms provider, trading partner and investor as well as protector of the regime in the international arena. China did not suddenly entered Sri Lanka but she developed a very strong relationship with Mahinda Rajapaksha even before he became the President. As a result, China heavily financed the election campaign of Mahinda Rajapksha. At the same time, through Minister Janaka Bandara Tennakoon Taiwan also financed the election campaign of Mahinda Rajapaksha. Millions of dollars given by Taiwan were not used for the first election campaign as he was not sure of his victory.

The intention of China was not only to have a satellite state in the door step of India but also to develop Sri Lanka’s sea port and airport facilities to be used in the future when a need arises. As Mahinda Rajapaksa had developed hatred towards India, China was very happy to be his side to use Rajapaksa regime against India. Today, China is behaving not as a friend of Sri Lanka but as a master who controls every aspect of the country. During the opening of the Colombo port and Katunayake-Colombo expressway, China unveiled its true face as a master prohibiting to display the Sri Lankan flag at the ceremonies. It is also worthwhile to note that Mahinda Rajapaksa visited China 07 times after becoming the President. This is very unusual as no leader in the world has visited China very frequently than Mahinda Rajapaksa. More importantly, treatment given to Mahinda Rajapaksa during each of his visits defers and towards the last visits he was not even given an audience of the top leaders of China. Evidently, China has very effectively used the greed of the Rajapsksa family according to its own agenda to protect and promote its interests in the Indian Ocean.

Chinese influence is heavily felt especially in Sri Lanka’s relations with other countries and defense related matters. It is a known secret that a specially hacking unit consisting of Chinese military personnel is working at the Sri Lanka Ministry of Defense. Their duties include hacking of telephones and computers of Sri Lanka opposition politicians, foreign Diplomatic Missions in Colombo and monitoring of Indian and US activities in the region. In addition, China is grooming Sri Lankan military personnel providing them with scholarships, monthly allowances and frequent foreign trips. Sri Lankan Navy Commander Jayanath Colombage is one of them. China is controlling him through his Chinese girlfriend and providing him with money. Similarly, Chief of National Intelligence of Sri Lanka Gen. Kapila Hendawiatharana and a number of intelligence officers in the army Intelligence unit are under Chinese payroll. Sri Lanka has offered China a land in Colombo 07 close to Chinese Embassy to establish a Chinese cultural center. The real aim of this center is to establish a fully equipped surveillance center to monitor India and activities of other nations in the Indian Ocean.

The Chinese influence is heavy in the Sri Lankan Ministry of external Affairs too. Secretary of the Ministry, Karunathilake Amunugama got his post as a result of constant pressure from the former Chinese Ambassador in Colombo. Amunugama is more loyal to China than Chinese Communist party comrades. He is frequently consulting the Chinese Ambassador in Sri Lanka and Chinese government on various issues related to Sri Lanka’s relations with other countries. Similar situation was prevailing long time ago in the Ministry of external Affairs during the periods of JR, Premadasa and Chandrika. During these periods, some officials in the Ministry get the speeches of the Sri Lanka President and the Foreign Minister corrected by the then Indian envoys in Colombo.

Karunathilake Amunugama has been frequently sending all classified documents, speeches and arrangements of CHOGM to the Chinese Embassy in Colombo. It was revealed through internal sources that China has already indicated some points to be included in the main CHOGM speech of the President of Sri Lanka. External Affairs Minister, G.L. Peiris is also under pressure from China on CHOGM matters. Not surprisingly, India has been able to obtain classified documents related to CHOGM through the present Sri Lanka High Commissioner in India. Of course he is very close friend of Kshenuka Senavirathna. Amunugama and Kshenuka are arch enemies.

Karunathilake Amunugama appointed Majintha Jayasinghe as the Chief of Protocol at a request of Colombo Chinese Ambassador. Majintha Jayasinghe underwent Chinese language training in Beijing under a Chinese government scholarship. He served in Sri Lanka Missions in China two times. He also has a Chinese girlfriend, who is a spy. Presently, she is in Sri Lanka and she is frequently meeting Majintha Jayasinghe. According to the Ministry of External Affairs sources, through Majintha Jayasinghe Chinese government has been able to obtain flight details of CHOGM leaders as well as information about other delegations visiting Colombo. Now CHOGM meeting has also become an event of the Chinese government as many officials from China have visited Colombo to monitor the conference and help the Sri Lankan government. This is a dangerous phenomenon as India is closely monitoring Sri Lanka. She has the ability to break Sri Lanka at any time as she did in the past through the LTTE.

In the history of Sri Lanka, the country has never been so dangerously controlled by a foreign nation than today. This is a pathetic situation. People of Sri Lanka and some sections of the international community are responsible for protecting the Rajapaksas, who are short sighted politicians with personal agenda. It is similar to the way the USA was protecting most corrupted leaders in the Middle East. Despite unprecedented support from the USA and the West, today, the forces of Arab Spring have been able to depose most of these corrupted leaders. As Sri Lankans are slavishly worshipping even the under wears and dogs of Rajapskes, a “Colombo Spring” cannot be expected very soon. However, surely Sri Lankans will suffer a long period under this regime mainly because of their approval of massacre of thousands of Tamils in the north in the name of countering terrorism. This is KARMA. True Sri Lankans salute the international media for exposing atrocities of Rajapaksa regime when local media has become slaves of the regime and enemies of the country.

Rajapakse ‘spy’ to leave SL secretly with CHOGM delegates after summit

(Lanka-e-News-08.Nov.2013, 11.00PM) The Medamulana Rajapakse regime had prepared a novel method to make sure that after the Commonwealth heads of government summit meeting , when the special delegates are leaving , along with them on the sly to send one of its acolytes to a European country , according to reports reaching Lanka e news inside information division.

It is planned that this special acolyte who is saddled with a number of responsibilities during the summit , leaves for the European country as soon as the summit is over . This specially picked individual will be arriving in the European country on the 19 th though he has no invitation from that country. His tour is organized in such a way that it is a secret to both Sri Lanka and the foreign country.

As this special individual has had no dealings with that European country , this tour is extraordinarily important and secretive,.

Like the foreign information services , Lanka e news too is scrupulously watching and trailing this mysterious individual. Lanka e news hopes to reveal all details of this individual’s secretive plans and pursuits shortly.

Regime to get SL underworld marksman released from Indian jail spending Rs. 25,00,000

Thushara_Perera_Wattala_EJ_LeN_23.10.2013

(Lanka-e-News-23.Oct.2013, 5.30PM) The ruling Rajapakse regime is in dire need of am expert marksman of the underworld for its own purposes , and is hence somehow trying to get a Sri Lankan underworld criminal freed from the Indian jail where he is now incarcerated, according to reports reaching Lanka e news inside information division.

The prisoner so sought to be released is Thudelle Gamini alias Chooti Gamini an underworld expert marksman. Chooti Gamini fled to India after shooting and killing IP Douglas Nimal and his wife at Homagama. He had committed these murders at the behest of Kimbula Ele Guna , an underworld criminal leader.

Thereafter both of them escaped to India. Now they are in an Indian prison supposedly due to a crime they had committed there. It is the opinion of the underworld members and the defense division that Thudelle Gamini is capable of shooting using a T 56 weapon or a pistol better than a soldier of the Forces. According to defense intelligence division , he is a hired assassin and so far he has committed more than 50 murders .

In any event the ‘contract’ to somehow get this criminal out has been entrusted along with a payment of Rs. 25,00,000 to SLFP organizer of Wattala and Gampaha district cum Presidential coordinating secretary, Thushara Perera . The latter is well noted for illicit immigration and emigration operations between India and Sri Lanka by boat. He was a defector from the UNP to SLFP. Thushara was also in prison over the killing of a millionaire businessman , Stanis Fernando ( Stanley) of Sangetikulama , Anamaduwa. Believe it or not ! this criminal (like many others) is now a Presidential coordinating secretary.

Lanka e news reported before that the Rajapakse regime is readying for a political murder ( Read- ‘danger signal regime’s bigwig …………’)

IFJ Condemns the Detention of Asia-Pacific Directors

Stop_the_War_Against_SL_LeN_01.11.2013

(Lanka-e-News-01.Nov.2013, 3.30PM) The International Federation of Journalists condemns the detention of Asia-Pacific Director Jacqui Park and Asia-Pacific Deputy Director Jane Worthington in Sri Lanka. The two have recently been allowed to leave after being detained without charge since Wednesday October 30.

Ms Park and Ms Worthington were detained at a press freedom meeting in Colombo on Wednesday and were held in their hotel and subjected to lengthy interrogation by defence and immigration officials and the Criminal Investigation Department all Thursday.

They were taken from the meeting to their hotel against their wishes. Their passports were confiscated and they were not allowed to leave to board their planned flight at 2.45pm on October 31. A device was inserted into Ms Park's laptop and interrogating officers appeared to download files.

They have not been charged with any crime and cooperated fully with authorities at every stage of the lengthy questioning process. They have not been physically harmed.

Media reports have suggested the Sri Lankan government was alleging Ms Park and Ms Worthington had conducted journalistic activities without obtaining media accreditation.

According to the Sri Lankan Government-operated Electronic Travel Authorisation system website, attending workshops is not prohibited under the conditions of the Sri Lankan tourist visa. The IFJ is adamant that no breaches of visa conditions have occurred.

AFP and local media have reported that Ms Park and Ms Worthington were accused by Sri Lankan Minister of Mass Media and Information Mr Keheliya Rambukwella of engaging in "anti-government activism" in breach of their visa conditions. The IFJ unequivocally denies this has occurred.

At the beginning of the questioning by Sri Lankan officials, Ms Park was confronted with an extensive dossier covering in detail her 17 visits to Sri Lanka over 15 years. She has been subjected to lengthy interrogations of up to nine hours focusing on her movements in Sri Lanka and her associations with local media personnel.

The IFJ believes this move by Sri Lankan officials is an attempt to intimidate and harass journalists inside and outside Sri Lanka to prevent reporting on the realities of life in Sri Lanka in the lead-up to the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, CHOGM, which begins in Colombo on November 15.

Canadian Prime Minister Stephen Harper has declined to attend CHOGM due to concerns about human rights abuses under the Rajapaksa regime.

The IFJ has been working in Sri Lanka for almost 20 years to protect media rights and promote and foster a culture of ethical, independent, public service journalism.

The IFJ has grave concerns about the safety of media personnel inside Sri Lanka arising from this incident. The IFJ is also deeply concerned about the safety of media personnel in Sri Lanka over the long term, most immediately once international leaders leave the country after the CHOGM meeting ends on November 17.

A police agent cum paid journalist behind the betrayal of FMM and IFJ to MaRa regime

FMM_Betreyal_LeN_31.10.2013
(Lanka-e-News-31.Oct.2013, 11.00PM) The Police intelligence arm SIS and officials of the Immigration department who raided the IFJ- FMM media workshop continued the questioning of Jacqueline Park for the second day on 31st.

The intelligence officials has brought the paper cuttings of the articles published by the Sunday Leader news paper against the Free Media Movement after its editor Lasantha Wikrematunga was shot dead.

Jacqueline Park is the editor of monthly publication of Australia Media Alliance, the journalists Trade Union with 20,000 members. She has been a trade unionist and a journalist for a long time.

Inelegance officials grilled FMM convenor Sunil Jayasekara for nearly 6 hours on 30 in an apparent attempt to intimidate and stop the media freedom activities of the FMM.

The Rajapaksha regime has accused Jacqueline Park of breaking Sri Lanka Immigration laws by obtaining visitor visa to attend a media workshop.

Before Sri Lanka became a country ruled by the Rajapaksha jungle rule representatives of all most all International Press Freedom organisations visited Sri Lanka on visitor visa and openly engaged in press freedom activities without any hindrance. It was militarised mind set of Gotabhaya Rajapaksha changed that practice in order to restrict international solidarity for media and journalists in Sri Lanka.

Now not only the Rajapaksha regime, but also a police agent cum journalist who is working for the murderous regime has been finding fault with obtaining visitor visa to attend a workshop. Many suspect that this police agent /journalist may have provided more information on other media personal and press freedom leaders who had visited Sri Lanka on visitor visas.

This police agent who living exile and run the website has advised Rajapaksha regime to investigate previous visits by J. Park and that is what exactly regime police men did. This is a warning too all media personal who visit Sri Lanka to report under cover. It was only weeks before that MaRa regime was looking for two Channel 4 under cover journalists in Sri Lanka. This police agent journalist would have dignity informed the regime if he know the names of the two journalists. It is very clear that this agent journalist has taken to duty if providing information to MARA regime on visiting journalists and press freedom advocates.

It was President Rajapaksha himself admitted that this person was one of his agents; further it was the same president who told that this person had served the Premadasa regime too masquerading as a student. Once the student movement unearthed the real role of the ''student'' this person had to move to another area. He served a short period as a convener of the FMM and FMM leadership came under death threats thereafter.

Now this police agent has shown his real face by openly advocating suppression against the FMM and IFJ by the MaRa regime.

Deux député Australie et Nouvelle Zélande Sont Expulsé par le gouvernement Sri-Lanka ( le 10.11.2013)

Rajapakse regime arrests and sent back Australian senator and New Zealand M.P while CHOGM stares in its face

Ausi&NZ_MPs_Arrested_LeN_10.11.2013

(Lanka-e-News-10.Nov.2013, 7.30PM) The SL Immigration and emigration intelligence department has this early morning arrested and seized the passports a New Zealand Parliamentarian and an Australian senator, and sent back them . The foreign VIPs had arrived in Sri Lanka earlier and they belong to two countries which are participating in the commonwealth summit in SL.

Lee Rinagan is the Australian senator , and Jaan Logi is the New Zealand Parliamentarian of green party. They had arrived in SL on the visas issued by SL under the special project after their foreign Ministries have informed the SL counterpart . They had been touring the north during the last three days and met with the northern provincial council members and held discussions with the newly appointed northern province chief Minister Vigneswaran.

The foreign Parliamentarian and senator were scheduled to leave SL today and they were to hold a press conference regarding their tour prior to their departure . This press conference was not something extraordinary and was to be just as usual.
