Government proves murder of journalists is unstoppable -police suppresses information that Mel is a journalist

(Lanka-e-News- 02.Feb.2014, 10.30PM) Following the return of President Rajapakse from his foreign tour, every opportunity that was offered to him on the platter in view of an important international Geneva conference that is in the offing, was allowed to go begging with the gory slaying of an international journalist at the crucial juncture. Just when the Geneva international human rights conference is around the corner and where a resolution is going to be adopted against SL, an internationally renowned journalist (female) was killed most brutally this morning. The deceased is Kalubowilage Melsia Gunasekera alias Mel Gunasekera.

She had been a correspondent for French news service on economics and research relating to SL until 2012. She was also a reporter for Sunday times and an Editor of Lanka business on line originally. Currently she had been working for the US Fitch rating agency.

She was living with her parents and brother at Battaramulla , and she is a 40 year old spinster .When her parents had gone to church since it was a Sunday, she had been alone in the house this morning . The murderer had in fact come in search of the victim to the house based on evidence .

When her parents returned from church they had been shocked to see blood stains in the veranda ,and her body had been dragged to the center of the house. There were cut and chop marks caused by a sharp weapon on her neck and body.

The cold blooded murder had taken place between 6.30 and 8.50 in the morning. The parents have informed the police emergency unit on 119 at 8.50 a.m. ,but the police had arrived only at 11.20 a.m. When the information of this heinous crime was passed immediately to the IGP commanding chamber and his information room , though the name , address and age had been recorded , her profession had been omitted in the record.

Interestingly and intriguingly , DIG Sumith Edirisinghe of western south Colombo division had informed the SSP Nugegoda office not to mention that the victim is a journalist. It is learnt that this is on the orders of criminal defense secretary Gotabaya.

Accordingly , in the statements recorded by the senior police inspector K C W Wickremesinghe OIC of Talangama police station under whose purview this incident comes and the OIC crimes division D R D Atapattu SI , it is not mentioned that the deceased is a journalist. The statement had been recorded in the heinous crime register 68/ 2014 of the Talangama police.

As is always the case under the lawless reign of the Rajapakses , no suspect has been apprehended so far.

When looking back on the history of the countless murders committed under this regime , it is clear that the government had always taken advantage of situations like this to allay any suspicion being directed against it , like in the timing of the present murder when people would doubt whether the government will commit such a ghastly murder when it has to face and answer at the Geneva human rights conference which is government’s biggest bugbear, is close at hand.

Meanwhile one suspect arrested by the police in the evening at Hanwella who was a painter.

Mel murder bloodied hands using a painter’s brush to paint a wrong picture- aim was to spite US

(Lanka-e-News- 03.Feb.2014, 11.45PM) The government is moving heaven and earth to wash off its bloodied hands by blaming the ghastly murder of Mel Gunasekera , a reporter for international media on Sri Lanka economic and analytical news , on an ordinary paint baas (painter)

It is well to recall the thwarted attempt to murder Sunday leader deputy editor Mandana Ismail recently on similar lines was also made by soldiers of the forces breaking into her house late night, in order to search for documents in her possession in connection with the collection of commission of Rs. 40 million by Namal Rajapakse from Krish Co.

Brutally murdered Mel Gunasekera too was well informed of a number of underhand deals of the Rajapkse regime. Killing of Mel the international reporter on the very day following the official notice given by visiting US state secretary Biswal that the US will be tabling a resolution at the Geneva conference on the crimes committed during the last phase of Sri Lanka (SL) war , as well as the dismal state of the human rights situation in SL , is to give a slap in the face of the US , according to political analysts.

Mel Gunasekera is a US educated female journalist.

No matter what , there are a lot of disputes and confusion among the police itself over the incrimination of a drunk painter in this murder citing the motive to murder as robbery of Rs. 1200 .

Analysts say , even to feign madness there must be a method . The powers that be who want to cover up this crime should not have chosen a paint baas (painter) to paint a wrong picture because it is like a kindergarten class child being used to paint a picture.

Journalist Mel’s murder : Here is the true picture not what was painted using painter’s brush

Who_Actually_Murdered_Mel_Gunasekera_LeN_11.02.2014

(Lanka-e-News- 11.Feb.2014, 11.00PM) It has come to light following a profound investigation conducted by the Lanka e news inside information division during the last several days into the brutal killing of a senior journalist Kalubowilage Melsia Gunasekera alias Mel Gunasekera at Battaramulla on the 2nd of February, and the arrest of a suspect Samson Joseph Anthony, a painter in connection with that murder , is another spurious drama similar to that enacted in relation to the Museum robbery where ‘Kanagetta’ from nowhere was made the suspect.

The true picture is, this murder has been committed at the behest of the Rajapakse regime by its hired assassin most cruelly and craftily, although a painter was incriminated and forwarded as the assassin.

Police media spokesman SSP Ajith Rohana ,who is also a lawyer , on the day (03) following the murder held a media briefing and produced the murder scene ‘productions’ at his media briefing ( nowhere in the world such an action had ever been taken following a murder by the law enforcing officers) thereby degrading the legal profession too because of that egregiously wrongful and illegal action taken by a lawyer cum SSP.

We give below what he revealed at the media briefing based on what was reported in the Lakbima newspaper on the 4 th …

“Samson Joseph Anthony , a painter of Aluth pare, Dompe had been taken into custody in connection with the murder of Ms.Mel. I am hereby producing before you (displaying the productions to the media) the 2 knives used in the murder and the blood stained clothes .Though false reports have been published in the international media implicating the government , they have all been belied following the arrest of the murderer . The arrest of the murderer within 12 hours of the commission of the crime is a great triumph for the police ( it’s a great triumph indeed with a police that cannot arrest suspects even after many years!)

Headed by DIG Sumith Edirisinghe and OIC special crime operation unit IP Nimal Karunaratne, the investigation was conducted. The murder had taken place at about 7.30 a.m. based on investigations. As there are no eye witnesses a scientific investigation is in progress. Crime scene inspection officers, the police official canine division , the finger print division have been enlisted. One suspicious finger print had been found. The police dogs went and stood at a particular spot. At that house a CCTV camera was there. We examined and analyzed the data provided by the camera. We noticed in the camera recording, an individual having some betel in his hand wearing a yellow tee shirt and a blue trouser entering Mel’s house.

This individual came out of the house a little while later in a different shirt and trouser. The betel that was in the hand of the suspect has dropped and the police had found it. When we began to inquire into who this individual was , we learnt that he comes to Mel’s house to paint same during the Christmas season. Later following the leads on his mobile phone calls it was discovered that he had been in that area on that day based on the communication tower data.

Accordingly , we arrested him at Dompe at about 8.30 p.m. He had worked as a painter only for 3 days in that house . During that period he had studied the movements of the inmates and their outings on Sundays. On Sundays the inmates of the house go to church after closing it. Having known that between 6.30 a.m. and 8.30 a.m nobody is in the house , he had ventured into it. However he had not been aware that on the fateful day , Mel was staying at home , and had not gone to the church.

As he entered the house , Mel had started blaming him in English. He had then held her in his embrace and cut her neck with the 2 knives that were on the table. There were about six cut wounds on her body.

After killing her he had robbed her blackberry phone . The police was able to retrieve the phone from his custody. He had cast aside the blood stained clothes , and had gone out wearing Mel’s brother’s dress. The police had been able to take into custody all those clothes.”

This above story of the police spokesman as reported in Lakbima raises a crucial question : how could Ajith Rohana, who is not only a senior police officer but also a lawyer display before the media all the vital productions relating to the murder despite the fact that there are no eye witnesses in this murder , and when these are the only evidence available as confessed by none other than himself. Is he so ignorant or stupid ? Doesn’t he know that his action is not only absolutely irresponsible but also totally and obviously unlawful ?

Under section 27 -1 of the evidence ordinance , an oral statement made by an individual to the police cannot be used against him during the court roceeding , except the court productions discovered on the suspect’s statement .

In a murder , if weapons had been discovered on the suspect’s statement , they can be forwarded to court as case productions. However those cannot be collected except in the presence of witnesses ,and several grounds should also be cited in support. Just because the suspect says he used a particular weapon to commit the murder, that will not suffice . There must be corroborative evidence to testify that that weapon was used.

In other words , there must be the fingerprint of the suspect or the blood stains of the victim as corroborative evidence on the weapon confirming that was the weapon used.

It is therefore extremely important that the weapon and other ‘productions’ linked to the murder are most carefully preserved without any evidence or signs thereon being destroyed . That is why they are sealed immediately . They must be entered in the police case productions receipt and handed over to the supporting police service. When handing over ,the seals of the investigating officer and the supporting service must be placed separately .

Thereafter they must be produced to court as soon as possible. In the court the investigating officer when giving evidence has to carefully open the sealed production and show before the judge, and a record must be made of it . After most carefully closing it the seal has to be placed again.

It is only after that it is sent to the government analyst department for examination. At that stage the officer who is sending it as well as the government analyst department officer who is receiving it have to make their records duly and officially.

All these long procedures have been revealed by us in order to bring home to the readers the monumental importance of the court productions connected with a crime .

While this is how productions of a crime must be protected and preserved , why did police spokesman Ajith Rohana , a lawyer cum senior SP in Mel’s murder who ought to know the procedure better than all others hold a media briefing hastily and display these most vital productions like a fishmonger trying to sell his fish in public using all the tricks and gimmicks of display ? By all this was he not trying to destroy all the relevant evidence that can help arrest the real culprit?

It is certain thatAjith Rohana was fully aware that Samson the suspect was only an actor and not the true culprit in his spurious drama enacted by the behind the scene murderers. The entire drama was orchestrated to rescue Rajapakses.

Unfortunately Ajith Rohana’s eagerness had outrun his sureness when planning and plotting , whereby he had betrayed the factual situation simply and amply while trying to camouflage it.

The other part of the story of Ajith Rohana which reveals his calculated aim to cover up the truth and exposes his imbecility despite being a lawyer and senior cop is :

According to him the police dog went some distance and stopped at a certain place, where there was a CCTV camera , and the camera data were analyzed. Based on his fairy tale the police dog had stopped near a camera which contained the suspect’s photograph .

What a ridiculous revelation is this? Nothing can be more ludicrous than taking an individual whose photo is in a CCTV camera into custody just because the police dog went and stood near the camera close to the scene of the crime. A police dog is trained to follow the scent of a culprit not digital photographs. Perhaps Ajith Rohana’s police dogs are digital creatures therefore.

On top of all these cock and bull stories, what was most suspicious and mysterious about Ajith Rohana’s fairy tale was :

He says the suspect had worked in Mel’s house, and he came afterwards to rob knowing that there was no one in the house as he was aware of the time and day when the inmates are not there , but since Mel was at home when he came he killed her.

Ajith Rohana’s story that the victim scolded the killer in English before the murder was committed must have been heard by his English speaking digital dog which he said went and stood near the digital camera. The most strange part of the fairy tale is, this would be assassin who arrived had not even peeped into the house from out to see who is inside. He had straight away walked into the house like a ‘King’ held Mel in his embrace and slit her neck . Being a painter who was known to Mel , after becoming aware Mel is inside surely should have given an excuse and gone away with the hope of accomplishing his mission on another day.

Besides , he had taken away only Rs. 1200 in cash. What a wonderful paint baas is he who so daringly kills a reputed journalist , robs only a day’s wage of a painter though there were plenty of other valuable items in the house to rob.

Indeed this is a great fairy tale . A painter who travels from Dompe to Battaramulla robs just Rs. 1200 only.

While the above tale/tales were concocted most cruelly by the brutal killers behind the scene, Lanka e news which frankly , fearlessly and forthrightly reveals the truth regardless of consequences , has this report :

• At about 1.45 a.m. in the night of 2nd February DIG Sumith Edirisinghe who arrived at the Talangama police station had abused the officers in raw filth for publishing that the victim Mel is a journalist. When the officer (SDO) on night duty had brought the register which records the movements of the superior officers and anded over to the DIG to record his arrival , the latter had screamed in filth ,‘you par…..h , are you trying to fix me by asking me to make a record in this register?’ and thrown the book back at the officer.

• Then he had asked to go and look for a house where a CCTV camera is installed. The house so found was the one stated hereinbefore. That house is about 150 meters away from Mel’s house ,and Mel’s house is not even within eyeshot distance of this CCTV camera house. The camera had hence only recorded the to and fro movement of Samson along the road .

• After learning that Samson is a ganja (cannabis) and heroin addict , it was decided that a story be concocted and elicited from him .

• The police who disclosed that when they went to arrest him he was fully drunk also state in the same breath that they recorded a statement of his for three hours. In the Talangama crime note book the statement had been recorded in the pages from 19 to 41. In the heinous crime register the suspect’s statement is recorded on 9 pages. This is another of the greatest wonders in the world. A fully inebriated individual who is not in his senses making a 9 page statement . It is questionable whether the officer who recorded a statement of such an individual was first of all in the right senses?

• It is only after arresting the suspect, a Tee shirt that was obtained from him was given to the police dog and made to go on the trail in order to concoct a tale accordingly. Nothing that was collected at the scene of crime had been given to the police dog for trailing.

• After arresting the innocent individual , Sumith Edirisinghe and Anura Senanayake have met Mel’s parents and threatened them, “we have arrested the suspect, therefore see to it that no statements are given to any media . If you do we shall not hold ourselves responsible if any harm befalls your other child too.”

• Accordingly , the parents have not posed for photographs for the media and media organizations though media made requests , and have also not made any statement including information they have about any suspect to the media. As a result the media were in a deep quandary. Even after knowing the factual situation they had to remain silent because of the request of the intimidated and threatened parents of Mel.

• Who actually assassinated the senior journalist Ms. Mel?-------

Based on reports reaching Lanka e news inside information division, Mel had been possessed of a wealth of information of the illicit and secretive cash transactions of the Rajapakses . She had also acquired information of what the Rajapakses were doing with the colossal amounts of money they were amassing. Unfortunately for her Rajapakses have come to know of this.

For the moment let us stop at this ,for innocent lives cannot be put in jeopardy. Human lives are more important though the Rajapakses do not share the same humane sentiment.
